Research Scientist, Formulation

Design the formulations our lab explores, and teach the machines what good chemistry looks like.
What you will do
- Translate product briefs into formulation strategies, constraints and measurable targets
- Design experiments alongside our robotic platform and review the candidates it proposes
- Characterize emulsions, surfactant systems and gels: rheology, stability, droplet size, pH
- Build the ingredient knowledge (function, compatibility, regulatory limits) our models learn from
- Take promising formulations from the bench toward pilot scale
What we look for
- MSc or PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, colloid, polymer or cosmetic science, or equivalent industry experience
- Hands-on formulation experience in personal care, home care or related consumer products
- A strong grasp of colloid and interface science and product stability
- Curiosity about automation and machine learning; coding is a plus, not a requirement

AI Research
Research Engineer, Post‑Training

Train the models that read chemistry, propose formulations and plan experiments.
What you will do
- Mid-train and post-train language models on scientific literature, ingredient data and our own experimental results
- Build agents that plan experiments, use tools and reason over hard constraints
- Design evaluations that measure scientific usefulness, not just benchmark scores
- Use outcomes from the lab as reward signals to improve proposals over time
- Own the data pipelines, training infrastructure and inference services behind it all
What we look for
- Deep experience training or fine-tuning large models (PyTorch or JAX, distributed training)
- Familiarity with post-training methods such as SFT and reinforcement learning, and with agent frameworks
- Strong software engineering and a habit of careful, well-controlled experiments
- Interest in science; a background in chemistry or the natural sciences is a strong plus

What you will do
- Design and integrate automated stations for dispensing liquids and powders, mixing, emulsification and measurement
- Write control software for robots, instruments and experiment schedulers
- Build vision and sensing for inspection, error detection and recovery
- Push for reliability: experiments that run unattended overnight, with every result traceable
What we look for
- Experience building robotic or automation systems that work in the real world, such as lab automation, manufacturing or autonomous vehicles
- Strong Python or C++, ROS or equivalent, and hands-on hardware integration
- Comfort working across mechanical, electrical and software boundaries
- Bonus: experience with liquid handlers, lab instruments or process equipment

Software Engineer, Lab Platform

Build the software backbone of an autonomous lab: data, orchestration and the tools our scientists use every day.
What you will do
- Build the data platform that captures every experiment with full provenance
- Develop orchestration that turns model proposals into robot instructions, and results back into training data
- Create internal tools for chemists to write briefs, review candidates and explore results
- Own reliability, testing and observability across the stack
What we look for
- Strong fundamentals and experience shipping production systems in Python, TypeScript or similar
- Experience with data systems, APIs and cloud infrastructure
- Product sense, and enjoyment of working closely with scientists
- Bonus: experience with scientific data, lab information systems or ML infrastructure

What we look for
- A background at P&G, HUL or Unilever, another CPG company, or in life sciences, in R&D, business development or commercial roles
- A track record of closing complex, technical partnerships
- The ability to speak credibly with formulation scientists and executives alike
- Based in, or willing to relocate to, the San Francisco Bay Area
